Reno Vacation

I took a few days of extra vacation around the May 24 long weekend to work on our master bedroom.

It seemed to have almost the original paint and definitely had the original trim work. We had picked a colour, I had all the tools. The only thing standing in our way was a wedding on Saturday and lots of furniture that needed to be moved around. Also the fact we’d have to spend our nights in the guest room – but that wasn’t so bad.

The room needed a tonne of wall repair for nail pops and holes. The ceiling was hairy from previous paint jobs and probably budget rollers. After all that sanding I looked like a snow man covered in white paint and wall repair compound. I really do hate working over my head.

I ripped off all the trim which makes painting so much easier – way less cutting in. The old awning closet doors were trashed since they didn’t close properly along with the old blinds. Then it was always a burst of activity with a delay for letting things dry. But in the end, we now have what seems like a completely new room. It turned out quite nice. I’ll see if I can get some photos up soon.

All that is left to do is find a nice ceiling fan to install. Since I didn’t have the fixture it couldn’t go in just yet. No rush on that though. People seem divided if a ceiling fan in the bedroom is a good idea or not. Some don’t like the noise, others love the breeze. Tough call – but if we can find an expensive unit to try it out I won’t feel so bad if we end up ditching it.
